The Sentencing Advisory Council was set up to bridge the gaps between the community, the courts and government by informing, educating and advising on sentencing issues.
We sat down with Chair, Professor Arie Freiberg, to hear about the work of the Sentencing Advisory Council and the factors that go into sentencing.
'A sentence is designed to meet many objectives. Punishment, denunciation, rehabilitation, deterrence, reformation, a whole lot of different factors, and the task of the judge is to reconcile those.'
