We are pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s Community Legal Grants.
Community Legal Grants support projects that improve community understanding of the law or navigate the Victorian justice system.
The funded projects will provide information to diverse community groups to improve legal outcomes and help Victorians understand their rights.
Congratulations to the five successful applicants.
Peninsula Community Legal Centre
Pathway to Safety
$20,000
This project will help migrant women experiencing family violence to stay in Australia. Peninsula Community Legal Centre will create an online tool to guide support workers through the complex application process for women whose visa status is dependent on their partner to remain in Australia and leave the abusive relationship.
Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC)
Your Rights, Your Choice
$20,000
A pilot project to increase awareness of voluntary mental health consumer rights. It will include digital resources and information sessions to educate voluntary mental health consumers and supporters about their rights.
Women's Information and Referral Exchange (WIRE)
Key Information Booklet Update – Separation & Property, and Stalking
$13,700
Updating two of WIRE’s high distribution information booklets - Separation & Property and Stalking to include changes in legislation, support agency information and accessibility to meet the needs of the audience.
Moonee Valley Legal Service
Sex, pleasure and the law
$20,000
A community legal education project that aims to build young people’s knowledge of sexual consent and the law through a pleasure framework. The module will focus on healthy, pleasurable and legal sexual relationships between young people. The project will be developed in partnership with GenWest.
Human Rights Law Centre
The Victorian Charter of Human Rights in Action
$6,000
A video project designed to increase awareness and use of the Victorian Charter of Human Rights by showing how it can benefit Victorians.
